Hi Friends,

Am back to writing something after a very long time...

Few days back I was talking to my colleague in his cabin, where I came across a piece of art, which he had put up in front of his desk.

                        (Waterfall)
I asked him about this image, and then he asked me to watch the image closely. I couldn’t understand at first, the image was confusing. The water from the waterfall was it going upwards or is it falling down??

Then he told me about this artist named Escher. M. C. Escher was a Dutch graphic artist during 1890’s.

After finishing my meeting with him, I got a bit inquisitive about this artist, and tried looking out for  more information about his work on Google. Got to know a lot about his work. He is known for his often mathematically inspired woodcuts, lithographs (Lithography is a method of printing originally based on the principle that oil and water do not mix. Printing is from a stone (lithographic limestone) or a metal plate).
His first artistic work featured eight human heads divided in different planes.
After seeing this image, i thought about the session which we had on perspective.

In this image four faces are seen clearly, other four you will notice when you tilt your head a bit.

While reading about him, they have said that, later on, Escher started sketching landscapes with irregular perspectives that are impossible in natural form.

His artistic expression was created from images in his mind, rather than directly from observations. Well known examples of his work include Drawing Hands, a work in which two hands are shown, each drawing the other hand.
We have received mails on such images.
Other know art pieces are Sky and Water, in which light plays on shadow to morph the water background behind fish figures into bird figures on a sky background; and Ascending and Descending, in which lines of people ascend and descend stairs in an infinite loop, on a construction which is impossible to build and possible to draw only by taking advantage of quirks of perception and perspective.(ref Google)

Fish.. bird..

Ship….bird … fish…

The metamorphosis of fish into frong.. Amazing..

(Ascending and Descending)
The staircase going up or down???

(Bond of union)

The spiral with human face.

The above images are either woodcut or Lithographs.

I found his art very mesmerizing and hypnotic.

I surely wanted to share this with you all as its all about perspective.

For more information you can just google it out.

Enjoy!!!!

Best Regards
