Reality Shows- Real or Reel?

After a really long trend of typical saas bahu serials followed by a small phase of college based serials, has arrived the phase of reality shows.

Reality shows as a whole has a wide range of segments branching from dance and music reality shows to cooking based reality shows. To gear up the TRPs, all the channels are using reality shows as there wild card. In this chase channels use different techniques which makes me wonder where the REAL in reality show lies.

When reality shows first started I really liked them a lot and even followed them, but after a certain period it’s novelty was lost. You could see dance, music and comedy over all the channels. The craze about them in me gradually went on decreasing as it became kind of monotonous. Also a competition ensued between the channel owners as to who could show better stuff on their channels. This gave rise to politics and gimmicks which could glue the audience in front of the television screens.

Reality shows I have seen were mostly based on two criteria-judge’s selection and votes. Judges selection can still be justified but can votes be justified? I mean on what basis do the viewers vote? Mostly on regional brotherhood or linguistic connections or popularity. Most of us may not have any knowledge about the competition. This is really unfair for the other participants.

After watching reality shows filled with dramas, rona- dhona and fights, I feel that they are just same as saas-bahu sagas under the tag of REALITY.
